A 6-DAY ITINERARY IN COSTA SMERALDA WITH NO FOOT ON THE GROUND

Yacht Itineraries

We are all heading towards summer time, the days are suddenly longer and, for people of the sea like us, it is hard to avoid that primordial instinct pervading our spirit: the impelling desire to reach the beach and touch the sea water. The ocean is just there, and it’s getting really weird  for islanders like us not being able to take a walk on the beach at this time of the year when the sun is up in the sky.

Many of us are certainly wondering how all this situation will end up this summer for the world and for the yachting industry, in our case. Will yachts be able to leave ports soon?  Which itinerary charter guests will be happy to choose? What will make them feel safe once authorities will allow yacht navigation?
There are many questions going around, and many of them have no answer yet. Therefore we are all allowed to make a guess. One of the possible scenario may be the possibility to navigate but with very strict chances to drop off people ashore for obvious safety reasons.

So why not taking the chance of planning an amazing yachting itinerary experience without one single foot on the ground?  Sardinia is the region of Italy that boasts the largest coastal line with its 1849km, definitely offering multiple choices of coastal itineraries.

Here our proposal for an amazing charter in Costa Smeralda and Sardinia East Coast in total safety.

DAY 1 – from Olbia to Maddalena’s islands

A comfortable landing in Olbia’s private terminal, followed by a 5-minute drive to Marina di Olbia in a total sealed cabin inside the luxury Mercedes Van. The tender ready for embarkation will drive you safely to the yacht just anchored off Olbia’s channel. After a warm and refreshing welcome on board, the yacht will start its cruise heading North towards the famous Maddalena’s national park. The seven main islands (Maddalena, Caprera, Santo Stefano, Spargi, Budelli, Razzoli and Santa Maria), which form the Maddalena’s archipelago, are famous for their natural beauty made by irregular coasts, rocks erased and shaped by the wind and enhaced by the strong presence of the typical Mediterranean brush, unique habitats and creatures.

A first stop in Cala Garibaldi, North of Caprera island, will give the chance to start breathing the beauty and the peace of the marine area environment and, if lucky, to receive the special visit of some local dolphins. The bay with fine light coloured sand and crystal clear sea, it’s framed by huge light-coloured rocks where bushes of Mediterranean shrub grow, creating striking chromatic effects.

The magical sunset of Budelli island is a must and the yacht can spend the night anchoring off as per park zoning map. Budelli island, an oasis of wild nature, has been a private property since before the national park was created, now it belongs to the park. It covers 12 kilometres of coast and an uncontaminated territory of 25 hectares, inhabited by a single person: its guardian. Dinner on board with enchanting views of the bay.

(Overnight at anchor in Budelli island)

DAY 2 – Maddalena’s islands
A breakfast overviewing, from a permitted distance, the very famous and untouchable pink beach of Budelli Island, a UNESCO World Heritage, will make the start of the day just the most fortunate. The beach, whose access is forbidden since 1998, it is one of the world’s most beautiful beaches, and owes its name to the colour of its sand, rich with tiny fragments of coral, granite and shells. Its spectacular colour is derived from a pink microorganism that inhabits the posidonia meadows and lives inside the shells.

The next anchorage will allow to enjoy a regenerating swim in ‘’Manto della Madonna’’ (Virgin’s mantle), an amazing reflecting pool located on the Eastern part of Budelli Island, in front of the wonderful bays of Santa Maria and Razzoli Islands. The name comes from the incredibly transparent and intense blue waters of this sea stretch: a truly pristine, natural pool, one of the most enchanting places in La Maddalena Archipelago.

The experience will not be completed without the unique seafood specialties offered by La Casitta restaurant in a total safe catering on board for lunch. For the most curious a helicopter tour of the archipelago (with all necessary COVID 19 precautions on) can take off from the helipad belonging to La Casitta restaurant in Santa Maria island.

The day can be enriched by several activities that will complete the visit of this amazing area of North Sardinia ending the day with the famous Cala Coticcio, better known as Tahiti, for diving and snorkelling. You can safely snorkel or dive in the enchanting scenery offered by the backdrops of North Sardinia and of South of Corsica, accompanied by experienced guides (with all necessary COVID 19 precautions on).

(Overnight at anchor in Caprera island )

DAY 3 – Porto Cervo
Breakfast and morning swim in Cala Coticcio. Enjoy relaxing in the peace and quiet it offers you.

2 hours navigation towards Porto Cervo will allow a stop at Liscia di Vacca bay in the early afternoon to enjoy some jet sky and water games and get ready for some entertainment on board for the late afternoon.
The yacht will relocate in the late afternoon next to Porto Cervo entrance. For the adults on board the aperitif can start with a remote connected wine tasting of the best local labels with our special sommelier, while kids can experience a remote connected pizza cooking class at the same time. All ingredients and wines will be selected previously and sent on time through our COVID 19 certified deliveries.  And why not making the night sparkle with a delicious dinner with local fish gourmet menu onboard and private fireworks settled ashore? Just enjoy the show while anchoring off the entrance of Porto Cervo.

Porto Cervo, named this way cause of the natural harbor's shape which reminds the shape of a deer (cervo), is the jewel nestled in heart of Costa Smeralda. This area has become one of the most popular tourist destinations for the elite in the world from the moment in which the appearance of naturalness and rare beauty led the Prince Karim Aga Khan here in the 60s. to establish the ‘Consortium Smeralda’, that would take care of the land management and tourism development of the area.
Till today Costa Smeralda is a magic destination for the international jet set.

(Overnight at anchor in Porto Cervo)

DAY 4 – Tavolara island
Start your day with the most delicious cookies and pastries from the best bakeries ashore in Porto Cervo, carefully delivered by NA, to enjoy every moment of this time in Costa Smeralda. The day offers multiple activities with possible few stops before reaching the majestic Tavolara island.
A nice anchorage, sheltered from main winds, on your  way to Tavolara’s island anchorage  can be Marinella bay.  A long white beach in front of your eyes without restrictions for water sport. Enjoy it!

Next stop: Tavolara island, her highness! A granite colossus emerging from the emerald green sea, dotted with green juniper, rosemary and mastic bushes and yellow helichrysum. The island, famous for being the smallest kingdom in the world, is a limestone and granite mountain that rises up from the sea, 560 metres high and four kilometres long, featuring rugged rocks and an impressive and vertiginous verticality. Its history is linked to King Charles Albert of Savoy who, according to the legend, arrived on its coasts searching the legendary goats with golden teeth, probably yellow from eating helichrysum, named its only inhabitant, Paolo Bertoleoni, king of the island. His descendants are still the only residents (and guardians) on the island.

Tavolara, and the nearby islets of Molara and Molarotto, are a paradise for scuba divers:environmentally rich in biodiversity and populated by schools of trusting fish offer unforgettable sights, both for divers using breathing apparatus and also for guided snorkelling.
No water sports are allowed in the National park of Tavolara, but a yoga sup class will make the beauty of Tavolara even more majestic from the water surface.
An overnight navigation towards South will introduce us to a complete different natural scenery.

(Overnight navigation towards South)

DAY 5 – Sardinia East Coast
Set against a backdrop of steep limestone cliffs and lush greenery, its turquoise and azure blue waters are clear like crystal, making Cala Luna one of the best snorkeling beaches of Sardinia. The secluded beach lies approximately 3 kilometers away from the Bue Marino Caves – a big sea cave with stalactites, stalagmites, and rock carvings – which makes Cala Luna beach the perfect spot for boat excursions and a great occasion for a dream navigation by kayak from the anchorage to the caves.
The beach is only accessible by a 4 kilometer hike from nearby Cala Fuili. For diving experts, the area gives the amazing chance to experience cave diving with one of our most trusted diving centres.

The East coast allows different amazing anchorages.
Don’t miss the occasion of an afternoon under the natural monument of Cala Goloritzè. The unspoiled and wild Cala Goloritzé is one of the coastal stretches of the Gulf of Orosei in which sea and mountain merge in perfect harmony.  A natural arch and the famous pyramidal peak of Monte Caroddi (143m above sea level) will appear emerging from a seabed of a surreal transparency, turquoise waters flowing from underwater karst springs. All around, imposing cliffs of 500mt height, covered with Mediterranean scrub perfume the air. Behind a forest of holm oaks and strawberry trees. The best conclusion of this amazing day at the East Cost would be a taste of typical Sardinian menu coming directly from the local farmers (COVID 19 certified) and served onboard in a total safe catering.

(Overnight navigation towards North)

DAY 6 – Cala Brandinchi to Olbia
Back to the colors of North Sardinia, few hours anchored off in Cala Brandinchi will make our last day a sweet goodbye to Sardinia scents.
Cala Brandinchi is one of the most picturesque, unspoilt beaches of Sardinia, located in Capo Coda Cavallo, almost opposite the impressive island of Tavolar, just south of Olbia.  The intense white colour of the sand gives a stunning contrast against the light blue turquoise water, with darker patches where rocks emerge.
Yacht will get closer to Olbia for its last charter anchorage to permit disembarking operations with drop off by tender in Marina di Olbia.
Luxury transfer to the private terminal in Olbia airport.
