Cagliari: a new NA reality
Deep in the south of the island of Sardinia stays its capital: Cagliari.
From the Phoenicians to present days Cagliari is the best stop in Mediterranean’s cruise. This is the center of Mediterranean sea, and this is where NA just officially open a new branch office to keep on offering you support for any need you’d might have (technical, logistic, administrative formalities, concierge services, provisions and bunkering). We have always been here for you but from this summer on, we will also have an office to support you more and to go along with you taking advantage of this place in paradise.
The Cagliari’s harbor offers numerous berthing options for yachts in a total of five marina operating in the harbor itself and a further three in the gulf of Cagliari within a twelve-mile radius.
The most important are:
Marina di Cagliari, sure the most comfortable Marina of southern Sardinia. It lays in the historical heart of the citycenter where you can walk to directly and it’s only five minutes from the international airport. It can accommodate boats up to 55 metres long. It offers all the main facilities for a safe and comfortable stay, such as wi-fi and a complete logistic assistance (Shipyard services, ordinary and extraordinary maintenance, electric, hydric and electronic plants, coachwork and carpentry, upholstery).
Portus Karalis: berths 140 in the inner harbor of Cagliari, it offers berthing for larger yachts and super yachts. Water and electricity available.
Marina Piccola Poetto 4 NM SE of Cagliari.A great drop off point for guests as it’s pretty small. Inside the breakwaters are pontoons with berths for 350, including 35 for vessels in transit. Anchoring and fishing are banned along the whole bosom of Quartu, including the area outside the Port of Marina Piccola at Poetto.
Take time to walk throws narrow, shabby, vibrant streetsand have a look at the art nouveau architecture and monuments in the old town Castello.Large parts of the old system of towers and bastions, built to protect the town, are still remaining and today are full of attractions. Get lost along Cagliari’s picturesque historical districts with sea views, its elegant shopping streets and panoramic terraces, including the bastione di Santa Croce, with great views for a romantic evening. The heart and soul of nightlife, as on ancient times, in the Castello area, on its highest hill full lined by grand old homes as Palazzo Regio and Palazzo di Città, offers fine restaurants and club to join a perfect Mediterranean evening.
Next to the city lay two lovely natural attractions: the Cagliari lagoon and the Molentargius-Saline park.
The Cagliari lagoon:1300 hectares with historical and natural value, one of Europe's largest and most important natural sites, a habitat for numerous species of bird, nearly 200 bird species, 70 of which remain all year round: herons, ducks, barn owls, black-winged stilts, falcons, gulls and kingfishers. The symbol of the lagoon are the pink flamingos, that choose to nest in Cagliarias well as in the Molentargius Park. The lagoon also has historical, economic and industrial interest. The strategic position has made it a port hub.
Molentargius was the richest Sardinian basin where to extract sea salt,up to 1985.At present days the Molentargius-Saline Regional Nature Parkconsists of 1600 hectaresrecognized by the Ramsar Convention as a wetland area of international standing, thanks to its birdlife: it is a resting and nesting place for numerous aquatic birds, first and foremost the pink flamingo. Rare species as amphibians, like the Sardinian tree frog and the European green toad, reptiles like the marsh turtle, the green whip snake and the three-toed skink, as well as mammals, live here perfectly integrated within the native flora.
Cagliari is also a good base for day trips not following strict itineraries but just accomplishing your desires:
