Adopt a Marine Turtle for an unforgettable Charter Experience: the Ocean Lovers Mission

Ocean Lovers

Turn your summer holiday into a deeply meaningful legacy.

Through the Ocean Lovers Project, created and driven by Nautica Assistance, your next luxury charter in the crystal-clear waters of Sardinia can become much more than just a getaway. It is an exclusive opportunity to actively protect the Mediterranean’s most fragile inhabitants and experience a moment that will stay in the hearts of your guests and crew forever.

What is Ocean Lovers & Why It Was Born

Ocean Lovers is not just an initiative—it is our way of giving back to the sea. Born out of a deep love for Sardinia’s magnificent coasts, this project acts as a vital bridge between the luxury yachting world and marine conservation. We want to truly inspire our community and raise awareness about the fragility of our waters, creating an emotional bond that connects people to the ocean through unforgettable, real-world actions.

The project is driven by three deeply meaningful pillars:

  • The 'Tag the Turtle' Rescue Project: Sponsoring, naming, and tracking rehabilitated sea turtles back into the wild.

  • Cetacean Monitoring: Actively involving yachts to log and protect marine mammals via a dedicated app.

  • Environmental Education for Yachting: Raising ecological awareness among crews and guests onboard.

The Reality of Our Waters & Our Scientific Network

Every year, approximately 50 sea turtles are retrieved along the Sardinian coastlines. The primary threats causing these strandings are strictly tied to human impact: accidental catch in fishing gear, entrapment in marine litter, and plastic ingestion.

To fight this, Ocean Lovers works hand-in-hand with a vital, close-knit scientific network: the Tavolara - Punta Coda Cavallo Marine Protected Area (AMP) hub, the expert biologists at the CReS (Marine Creatures Rescue Center) of Oristano, and the Sardinian Regional Network for Marine Fauna Conservation.

Currently, several magnificent Caretta caretta turtles are undergoing intensive medical care and motor rehabilitation at the CReS facility, looked after by a brilliant team of scientists including Dr. Pieraugusto Panzalis and Dr. Graziella Dedola (Tavolara AMP), alongside CReS biologists Dr. Andrea Camedda, Dr. Andrea de Lucia, and Dr. Giorgio Massaro. Soon, one of these incredible creatures will be ready to return home.

The Upcoming Release: End of August / Beginning of September 2026

We have a beautiful, rare opportunity ahead, and the stage is set for one of the most magical spots in the Mediterranean. At the end of August or the very beginning of September 2026, a fully recovered sea turtle will be released back into the wild right in the breathtaking bay (rada) of Tavolara Island, in North-East Sardinia.

Imagine your yacht anchored in front of the majestic silhouette of Tavolara, your guests gathered on deck, and the profound emotion of watching a creature that was once injured dive back into the deep blue sea, free at last.

How Your Yacht Can Participate

This extraordinary opportunity is open to the entire global yachting community. You do not need to be an existing Nautica Assistance client to share this experience with us or to apply for the adoption—anyone who shares our deep love for the ocean and wants to actively protect its waters is welcome to join.

Whether you are an owner, a charter guest, a captain, or a broker, we invite you to be part of this mission and help us spread the word. Conservation knows no boundaries, and together we can make a significantly greater impact.

A Bond That Lasts Forever: Name Her and Follow Her Journey

The moment your yacht decides to adopt this sea turtle, an incredible emotional and scientific journey begins. You will get to know her entire story—where she came from, how she was rescued, and how she fought to survive. Even better, you will have the absolute honor of giving her a name.

To ensure her continuous safety and contribute to marine science, she will be fitted with a high-tech satellite tracking device before her release. This tag acts as a vital tool for research, allowing marine biologists to collect essential data on migratory routes, diving behavior, and the health of the Mediterranean ecosystem.

At the same time, it creates an unforgettable bond: once she dives back into the waves, you, your family, and your crew will be able to follow her real-time path across the ocean. Knowing you gave her a second chance at life and watching her travels unfold is an extraordinarily touching experience that connects you to the sea forever.

Pure Passion, Zero Profit: Transparency and Connection

It is fundamental for us to share that the Ocean Lovers project is completely non-profit for Nautica Assistance. Every single cent involved goes directly towards making this miracle happen and supporting marine conservation.

To ensure absolute transparency, all adoption costs are fully justified by official documentation covering the exact expenses of the mission:

  • The specialized satellite tracking device, custom-ordered and pre-purchased directly from the USA.

  • International shipping and customs clearance for the scientific equipment.

  • The professional video and photo shoot on board, providing both your yacht and our project with powerful media to further amplify this inspiring mission worldwide.
