ADOPT A TURTLE THIS SEPTEMBER: AN INVITATION FROM THE OCEAN LOVERS MOVEMENT

Ocean Lovers

Dear Yachting Community,

We are delighted to extend a unique and heartfelt invitation to you this September — the chance to adopt a turtle through the Ocean Lovers Movement, a non-profit project by Nautica Assistance. This initiative is a vital part of our ongoing efforts to safeguard the marine environment of Sardinia and beyond.

Patastrocchia: A Story of Hope and Resilience

Among the many turtles we’ve rescued, Patastrocchia holds a special place in our hearts. She is a particularly small turtle, found in a critical condition after ingesting plastic and polystyrene. Patastrocchia was brought to the Marine Research Center in Oristano, where a dedicated team of biologists worked tirelessly to save her. Over the past two years, this tiny yet resilient turtle has grown stronger, expelling the harmful materials from her body and steadily recovering.
We are thrilled to announce that Patastrocchia, our beloved mascot, is now ready to return to the wild. Soon, she will be released back into the Gulf of Marinella, the very waters where she was first found. Her journey from peril to freedom is a powerful reminder of the impact we can have on marine life through our collective efforts.

Tag the Turtle Project: A Journey of Conservation

The 'Tag the Turtle Project' is one of the most significant initiatives of the Ocean Lovers Movement. By adopting a turtle like Patastrocchia, you play an essential role in the life-saving process of rescuing and rehabilitating these incredible sea creatures. Once the turtles are ready to return to the ocean, you’ll witness the profound moment of their release back into their natural habitat.
Your adoption includes a satellite tag, providing a unique opportunity to follow your turtle’s journey through the sea. This not only allows you to stay connected with its adventures but also aids biologists in tracking and studying the movements and behaviors of the turtles, contributing valuable data to marine research. The turtle can be released directly from your yacht under the supervision of our biologists, making this experience even more personal and memorable.

Discover the Ocean Lovers Movement

For the past two years, the Ocean Lovers Movement has thrived through the collaborative efforts of Nautica Assistance, the Tavolara and Capo Coda Cavallo Marine Protected Area, and the Marine Research Center in Oristano. This partnership has enabled us to launch numerous initiatives aimed at preserving marine life and ecosystems.

Other Key Projects of the Ocean Lovers Movement

Cetacean Monitoring Initiative:

Our commitment extends beyond turtles. We invite you to participate in our Cetacean Monitoring Initiative, which focuses on collecting data about cetacean sightings. Using this survey form, you can report sightings and contribute to the conservation of these majestic marine mammals. This data is crucial for understanding and protecting the various species that traverse our waters.

Environmental Education for Yachting:

Education is a cornerstone of our movement. Through our Environmental Education for Yachting program, we offer workshops and onboard training sessions that teach best practices for preserving the ocean’s beauty. These programs are designed to equip yacht owners, guests, and crew members with the knowledge and tools needed to become true stewards of the sea.

Join Us in Making a Difference

We invite you to join us in this passionate endeavor to protect our marine treasures. Your participation in adopting a turtle, engaging in the Cetacean Monitoring Initiative, and attending our educational programs will significantly impact marine conservation efforts.
